On request and as a challenge put by the wordpress team I have added an “About Me” page.
My name is Jason McCosker, a photo enthusiasts located on the Eastern Coast of Australia. I grew up in a small town on the North Coast of New South Wales. I have always loved music and art and dabbled in photography from when I was about 18. At that time I was an architectural student and all I was interested in was the lines and textures of architecture.
As a student I had time on my hands but not much money. My camera being the easy handling Pentax Z-50P. I graduated as an architect and commenced work. This coincided with me smashing the Pentax on a hiking trip on the south coast of Australia. The lack of time and no gear pushed photography out of my frame for a long period of time.
When digital photography came about, I bought myself a little compact camera being a Canon IXUS 400. I was slowly becoming more and more interested in photography. However, I upgraded to a couple of other point and shoots and they frustrated me so much. They were slow, missing focus and the manual controls all too restrictive.
I met my wife, we had kids and I was looking for a fast camera I could take everywhere to capture the moments of my family. I wanted a digital camera that offered the same fun that I had with my old trusty Pentax. Olympus had just put out the OMD EM5 and following some great reviews I went above my budget constraints and purchased it. After my first afternoon shooting with the OMD, photography had me hooked again. I finally felt that technology had improved so much that digital photography finally became of age.
I have never been a prolific photographer and am not a professional photographer and would never claim to be. I do not get paid for this site or my pictures and I have another life that feeds my family. In that life I can safely say I am a professional. However, photography is my passion and sharing it, learning it and doing it is what I love.
With this site I want tell you of the stories behind the images and about the gear and set up to capture the moments. I will also share my thoughts on photography including locations, events, processing, composition, gear and projects.
A feature of the site that is The Shutter Journal is the stories “THROUGH YOUR EYES” where I hope to feature YOUR journals, tips and projects that will inspire others to get out shoot and share their journey on the site. The site is not all about my journals rather it was established to be about everyone who wishes to visit and share their passion for stories and photography. This will inspire us all to be better, so be sure and submit you pics using the “THROUGH YOUR EYES” tab above.
