We spent last weekend in the heart of Sydney for a little Christmas Shopping in Pitt Street, Sydney.
Christmas Shopping in Pitt Street is a unique and unforgettable experience. There are so many things to do that shopping is optional. The experience you have will be entirely up to you as I know my wife reading this journal would say that I have it all wrong and it is all about the great retail therapy.
For me Pitt Street offered a Cosmopolitan Festival that allowed me to experience Christmas Shopping in a different way as I had so many options with so many interests on offer. So what you see through my lens is entirely my own experience and I am sure your lens would write a different journal. This Therefore, the Pitt Street Experience is unique for every individual.
Ask me what I remember about the weekend and I say “The I-Pad Santa and some funky sounds”
However, for my wife it would be the retail therapy high. I was informed it was the best shopping in NSW with Myer, David Jones, Glasshouse, Sydney Arcade, Westfield Sydney, Mid City Shopping Centre and the Strand Arcade offering more than 600 specialty stores within two city blocks. I have to admit the experience allowed me to get most my Christmas shopping done with a week to spare. So no complaints.
However, my memory is all about the street itself. The people, the music, the texture, the art and the culture. Along the street are what I describe as circle shows put on by street performances with some attracting huge crowds. The performances varied with pup-petering, magicians, acrobats, dancers and most of all musicians.
Like in every large city there are the few that have seen hard times and beg for money and I happily give a hand. However, the street is alive with the sound of voices, guitars and the movement of dancers.
What was beautiful to see is that it was enjoyed by all ages from all communities who were there for the Pitt Street Experience. Whether that be shopping, catching up for coffee, art and culture or just some good photo opportunities.
In conclusion my Pitt Street Experience was a retail therapy session open to the sky with a festival in the streets. It represented Sydney as the Cosmopolitan Capital of Australia. I am sure those reading this from Melbourne would be saying he obviously has not been down this way for some time. They would be correct. However, that maybe a 2014 adventure. Merry Christmas.
Feel free to comment, share, like and leave a journal of your own Christmas experience.
